OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WFSB) - Coffee drinkers in the U.S. could soon be paying significantly more for their morning brew, as new tariffs on coffee imports take effect.
A 50 percent tariff was recently imposed on Brazilian coffee, one of the most widely consumed sources of coffee in the United States.
Colombia, another major exporter, is also affected by the new trade measures.
Carol Adams, owner of Ashlawn Farm Coffee in Old Saybrook, said she currently has about six weeks of inventory in stock.
Once that supply runs out, she may be forced to raise prices by as much as 50 percent.
