CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man who had been at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center-Central in Uptown since 2023 has died while in custody, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

The man has not been identified, other than that he was 38 and Hispanic.

He was found unresponsive shortly after 12 a.m., and medical staff was notified. MCSO said despite aid efforts, he was confirmed dead around 12:45 a.m. His family has not yet been notified, so his name and further details have not yet been released.
