A Fairbanks man was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years with 30 years suspended for sexually abusing two minors over a four-year period.

Thomas Farkas, 54, pleaded guilty in April to two counts of felony first-degree attempted sexual abuse of a minor, reduced from felony first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, for sexually abusing two children between April 2019 and March 2023. The state dismissed seven charges of felony first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and four counts of felony second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Assistant District Attorney Kathryn Mason said that this was a “extremely serious offense” involving an “ongoing pattern of abuse” with the two minors.

Mason said that the sentence, which is 30 years with 15 years suspended on each charge, focuses on isolation.
