LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday the launch of a new digital literacy program for inmates at the Livingston County Jail.
The initiative, called the ‘North Star Digital Literacy Course,’ is a partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and Copperhead Defense Technologies.
The program teaches inmates essential computer skills, such as sending emails and navigating the internet, using computers provided by the tech company.
Sheriff Mike Murphy says that this program is teaching inmates life skills that they’ll be able to use once they are released.
The course lasts two weeks, and inmates who complete the program and pass will receive a free laptop when they are released.
