HAMMOND — A Merrillville man has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon, according to a press release.

Frank Washington III, 37, was sentenced by United States District Court Senior Judge James Moody to 70 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, officials said.

Court documents reveal that Washington, who has multiple prior robbery convictions, was found in possession of a stolen, loaded firearm in Gary in February 2025. During that month, he was reportedly seen driving with the firearm holstered at his waist on several occasions.
