A British couple has been sentenced to nine years in a Zimbabwean prison after being found guilty of smuggling more than 66 kilograms of cannabis into the country.
Tihaise Darlin Elisha, 19, and Taylor Tamara Simone, 21, were arrested in May at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare after arriving on a flight from Thailand. Authorities say the two were stopped after displaying “suspicious behavior” and were searched by airport security.
Investigators discovered 66 kilograms (145 pounds) of cannabis concealed in four suitcases the pair were carrying. They were immediately taken into custody and charged with drug trafficking.
