HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Connecticut has entered into a sister state agreement with a Ukrainian province.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Gov. Vadym Filashkin of the province Donetsk Oblast planned a virtual news conference for noon on Thursday.
Lamont’s office said the agreement will foster bilateral cooperation, partnership, and collaboration in social, cultural, economic, humanitarian, and educational exchanges.
The governor described Donetsk Oblast as a province in eastern Ukraine. It was invaded by Russian forces in 2022 and has been the site of heavy fighting by the Russian military.
Lamont’s office said both governors planned to sign documents formalizing the agreement during the news conference.
