With summer upon us, there has been precious little in the news regarding the issues of affordable housing and homelessness issues.

That’s unfortunate, as the problems of assisting those who are homeless and helping struggling low-income and working-class people in our community are about to get a lot worse.

According to the nonpolitical Bipartisan Policy Center, The Trump administration’s 2026 budget proposal “includes a 44 percent reduction in funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The administration aims to achieve the reduction by consolidating HUD’s largest rental assistance programs and eliminating programs related to homelessness … and fair housing.”
