PROVIDENCE – Minutes before the RIPTA Board of Directors convened Thursday morning, Gov. Dan McKee released a letter urging the board to reject the current proposal for widespread service cuts. The governor instead suggested the board pursue a more "balanced" plan that includes fare increases and targeted route reductions.

The board, which had been expected to vote on the proposed service changes during its 9:30 a.m. meeting, instead voted unanimously to delay the decision.

"Given the volume of comments and new information that we've had presented ... I'd like to propose that we table the (decision) on the route changes that we were contemplating on making at today's meeting until a meeting in the near future," said RIDOT Director and Board Chairperson Peter Alviti at the start of the me
