CRANSTON – When the Cumberland Youth Baseball/Softball League’s ages 8-10 all-star baseball team took the field late Wednesday night for its pool play finale against New Hampshire state champion Mount Monadnock in the Eastern Regionals’ New England tournament, the ballclub did so with a 1-1 record and a sense of urgency.

Cumberland faced Maine state champion Cumberland/North Yarmouth in a pool play game on Monday night at the Cranston Western Little League’s Michael P. Varrato Field, only to suffer a 3-2 loss that helped the Maine champs clinch a berth in today’s semifinal round.

Cumberland/North Yarmouth with either be the second or third seed in the semis, because on Tuesday morning, the ballclub wrapped up pool play with a 2-1 mark by suffering a 4-2 loss to Vermont champion Colcheste
