A man has been charged with a federal crime after authorities said they found images and videos in his possession that depicted the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.
Matthew Ozol, 39, of Jersey City, is charged with a single count of possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey said in a statement on Wednesday. He remains in federal custody following his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Law enforcement started investigating Ozol after an account that participated in a graphic group chat on a messaging app was traced back to his IP address, federal authorities said. In the chat, the participants discussed sexually assaulting young children and distributed a video depicting similar abuse, federal prosecutors said.
