ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Weston man has pleaded guilty to a bribery charge related to him accepting money from inmates while he was a correctional officer.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of West Virginia, Hector Lopez, 41, of Weston, pleaded guilty to bribery of a public official and faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
The plea agreement says that while he was a correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Center Gilmer, Lopez smuggled contraband into the prison and accepted $40,000 in payments from inmates for doing so. The release did not specify when the bribery took place
A federal district court judge will determine Lopez's sentence.
