A new lorry to clean thousands of “abysmal” drains in Derby is yet to hit the roads – despite its purchase being agreed 18 months ago. The whereabouts of the lorry in Derby has been questioned this week by puzzled councillors with the situation being likened to a game of “Where’s Wally” .
But Derby City Council say the vehicle will soon “deliver an improved service, benefiting residents across Derby”. It comes after a cross-party agreement was made in February 2024 for the city council to purchase an additional vehicle to clean the drains.
This happened after it came to light – via a member of the public – the authority had just one vehicle to clean tens of thousands of drains across the city.
