EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Mesker Park Zoo has announced the euthanasia of "Friday" the female Bactrian Camel.

According to the Zoo, Friday had been receiving treatment for more than a year due to multifactorial gastrointestinal disease.

In September 2024, Friday underwent a lifesaving plasma transfusion, and had been closely monitored since then.

Friday's health continued to decline, and she was eventually hospitalized for multiple days, the Zoo says, leading to the difficult decision to pursue humane euthanasia.

"Decisions like this are never made lightly. After exhausting all options and careful evaluation, euthanasia was determined to be the most compassionate choice for Friday’s wellbeing," the Zoo says.

The Zoo is now working diligently to find a new companion for "Wednesday."
