Major League Baseball is set to make history this weekend.
Jen Pawol, 47, will become the first woman to umpire a regular-season MLB game, the league announced Wednesday . She has been called up to join the five-person umpire crew assigned to the Atlanta Braves–Miami Marlins series at Truist Park, which includes a Saturday doubleheader and wraps up on Sunday.
Pawol is scheduled to be behind the plate for Sunday’s series finale on Aug. 10—marking a groundbreaking moment not just for baseball, but for women in sports. She’ll work each of the final three games of the series alongside the full-time crew, which required an extra umpire due to the back-to-back games on Saturday.
“This historic accomplishment in baseball is a reflection of Jen’s hard work, dedication and love of the game,”
