The family of a Detroit man killed at Eastern Market last year has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against its operators, the security team and the coordinator of the tailgate event he was attending.

Rayshawn Palmer, 40, of Detroit, was one of two men fatally shot at the Sept. 15 tailgate after a Detroit Lions game.

Two men, a concealed pistol license holder and 25-year-old Jalen Welch, got into an argument at the tailgate and both pulled out their guns. The CPL holder, who The Detroit News is not naming because prosecutors found he acted in lawful self-defense , shot Welch. The bullet went through Welch and also struck Palmer, who was uninvolved in the argument but was trying to keep the peace.

Both Palmer and Welch died from their injuries.
