LAKOTA, ND — Elaine Brooks is making the trade that all loving family members accept at some point. She's retiring to spend more time with her great-grandchild, her grandchildren and her children.
After 41 years in business, Elaine’s House of Dreams, the endearing coffee shop in Lakota, North Dakota, will be closing its doors. It means Brooks will finally get a chance to be the great-grandmother she has wanted to be.
“It’s time. I’m of the age — I’m going to be 70 this fall, so it’s time to retire,” Brooks said.
She took a step back from the business over the last three years. House of Dreams had been open sporadically as she and her husband dealt with health issues, which only brought more sincerity to the idea of hanging up the apron. She was able to sell the building and now the shop
