WGHP FOX8 announced Thursday that Brad Jones, anchor of its morning news show, plans to retire at the end of the year.

Jones' last broadcast will be Dec. 29 after 27 years at WGHP. He also worked at WFMY in the Triad market.

WGHP credited Jones with "a passion for storytelling and a sharp news sense that quickly earned him the respect of colleagues and viewers alike." It also touted his willingness to mentor to young journalists beginning their careers in the FOX8 newsroom.

Jones cited part of his reasoning for retiring having six grandchildren "and number seven is arriving soon, so my wife and I look forward to more time enjoying special moments with them."

FOX8 said it will air special segments in December leading up to Jones' final broadcast.
