KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The current elected Knox County property assessor has been indicted by a Knox County grand jury on criminal charges.
Court records show that William Phillip Ballard was indicted on one court of Official Misconduct on Aug. 6.
The Knox County property assessor is an elected office. Ballard was elected in 2024 to a four year term after two previous terms as the assessor in Knox County.
The office is responsible for assessing all real and personal property within the county for tax purposes.
Ballard was booked into the Knox County Jail on Thursday morning and has now been released.
