Steinbach City Council has decided to cut funding for the Steinbach Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) pilot project.

The SEDC first presented the project to council in 2021, designed to strengthen the city’s economic outreach and business expansion efforts.

The corporation had plans to bring more agricultural business to the city and grow networks within Southeast, Manitoba.

Over the past five years, Steinbach City Council provided $65,000 annually to the project, with the public sector matching that amount.

At a council meeting on Aug. 5, 2025, Steinbach City Council decided to end funding as of Dec. 31 this year.
