ORONO, Maine (WABI) - According to the Maine Forest Service, Beech Tree Disease now has a presence in all counties

It was recently detected in Franklin County.

The disease is more prevalent near coastal areas though it has been found as far inland as Merrill in Aroostook County.

Affected trees can be identified by cupped and shriveling leaves and dark bands in the veins of the leaves.

According to the Forest Service, the disease is likely fatal for smaller trees, but long term longevity for affected trees as a whole is unknown

It’s also possible trees already affected by beech bark disease may also show a compounded decline.
