COMOX — A family is grieving the loss of a young mother and her five-month-old son, who were killed by a falling tree at a Vancouver Island campground last week. The incident occurred on July 31 at Cumberland Lake Park Campground. In a statement released through the Comox Valley RCMP, the family expressed their heartbreak over the tragedy.

The victims have been identified as Lynae and her son Elias. The family did not disclose their last names. They thanked emergency responders and bystanders who attempted to save them during the incident.

According to police, Lynae, 26, died at the scene. Elias was transported to a hospital but unfortunately did not survive. Authorities have stated that no criminal activity is suspected in connection with their deaths.

In remembrance of Lynae and Elias, a community gathering is planned for Sunday at Comox Marina Park. The family appreciates the public's support during this difficult time. A photo of the mother and child has been shared by the family and was also provided to the police.
