MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Marion Police Department held their second annual Badges & Backpacks event was a success. The event supports local kids as they prepared for the new school year.

The community came together to help the children with the items they need ahead of the upcoming school year.

"Thanks to the incredible support from our community, we were able to help local kids get ready for the new school year with supplies, smiles, and some quality time with officers," Marion police said in a post.

Sponsors played a critical role in the event's success. They include contributions by Top Notch Auto, Wendy Cunningham, SIH, Johnson's Towing, SIU Credit Union, and McDonald's

Police also gave Walmart a special thank you for donations and space for the event.
