BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The Dakota Zoo in Bismarck recently welcomed one of the rarest animals in the world.
This Amur tiger cub was born on April 17 at the Dakota Zoo. His parents, Spudnik and Nadi, courted each other for two years before Nadia became pregnant. The birth is significant because there are fewer than 500 tigers like this in the wild.
“Zoos are working together to preserve genetic lines to make sure these tigers are around for a resilience population to make sure we can keep this unique species going,” said Dakota Zoo Assistant Director Allison Malkowski.
Visitors to the zoo have been lining up to see the cub from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. The zoo is holding a naming contest for the cub. It’s five dollars per vote, and you get information on the Dakota Zoo Facebook pag
