Iimagine one of the most difficult parts of being a shelter worker is watching dogs’ faces drop when they realize adoption day didn’t lead to a new home.

Shelters can be hard on dogs. Even when they’re treated kindly and well looked after, it’s never meant to be permanent. Every dog deserves more.

Still, not all pups get that chance quickly. Some stay with rescues much longer than they should.

That reality is painful, but not all stories end in sadness. Franny is a loving pup who spent a long time in a Pennsylvania shelter. She had her hopes set on one day leaving for good.

Like many dogs, she’d think each outing meant a new home, only to be let down. But things were about to turn around for her.
