ANN ARBOR TWP., MI — With a shortage of drivers to haul freight, a newly opened company hopes to help solve that problem with autonomous trucks.
Torc Robotics held an official opening ceremony today, Aug. 8, for its new $5.6 million facility at 2211 Old Earhart Road in Ann Arbor Township.
A subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, Torc is focused on developing self-driving software for long-haul freight trucks in the United States.
The goal is to put self-driving trucks on the road in 2027, with the help of the engineering work at the new hub.
The Ann Arbor location was strategically chosen to leverage Michigan’s established automotive industry and growing technology sector, Torc CEO Peter Vaughan Schmidt added. The Michigan Strategic Fund awarded Torc a $3 million grant in June to support the
