SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) -- A state senator based in Springfield has announced that eight school districts in Central Illinois will receive more than $3 million in funding.

Sen. Doris Turner (D-Springfield) announced the funding on Thursday. This money distributed is on top of the base funding that the state already provides and is part of an effort to make school funding more equitable by calculating the needs of individual school districts and basing state revenue on those needs.

"We want to make sure our schools in Central Illinois receive their fair share of available state funding," Turner said. "This money will give local school districts more tools to provide our children with a high-quality education that they deserve."
