HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- Amtrak has announced that locally made ACELA trains by Alstom in Hornell are expected to start hitting the tracks soon. According to New York Senator Chuck Schumer, the some of the trains could start to see service as soon as late August.
"Amtrak's new Acela trains will be hitting the tracks soon, meaning a smoother and speedier experience for passengers across the Northeast corridor. None of this would be possible without the powerhouse union workforce at Alstom in Hornell. The Southern Tier workforce is the best of the best when it comes to train production, and they are ushering in the future of rail travel for all of America,” Schumer in a statement.
The NextGen ACELA will run at speeds of up to 160 miles per hour and run from Washington, DC to New York,
