A Baton Rouge man has been accused staging a crash on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

In June, investigators with the Breaux Bridge Field Office of the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft Unit launched an investigation into a suspected staged crash. The findings resulted in the arrest of 34-year-old William Baker of Baton Rouge.

The investigation began after troopers on June 24 responded to a crash on Interstate 10 West near the intersection with Louisiana Highway 3177.

The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m., and involved a passenger vehicle driven by Baker and an 18-wheeler transporting liquid nitrogen gas.
