The Michigan football team is down a running back a week into training camp.
CJ Hester, a transfer from UMass, departed the program this week and will not be part of the team in 2025, spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed to The Ann Arbor News/ MLive on Thursday.
On3 first reported the move. A source with knowledge of Hester’s decision told MLive that he plans to redshirt this year and reenter the transfer portal this fall with two years of college eligibility remaining.
Why the departure? Folks aren’t saying, but Hester enrolled at Michigan late this summer before joining the team for preseason camp. Listed at 5-foot-10 and 205 pounds, he was brought in to help bolster a young, inexperienced running back room after the team’s previous No. 3, Ben Hall, departed in the spring.
