LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Veterinarians at Potter Park Zoo in Lansing are reporting that its rare black rhino Doppsee's health is improving -- and her gastrointestinal obstruction is shrinking.

Last Monday, Doppsee was placed under 24/7 supervision after having what zoo officials called a "medical emergency," and saw a "very sudden" decline in health. She was treated for her symptoms and tended by up to 20 veterinarians and a team totaling 45-50 people at a time, vets told 6 News.

Her size complicated efforts to treat her, as she was too large to x-ray, meaning vets had to rely on data from bloodwork, ultrasounds, and physical exams and considered surgery a last resort.
