SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Fort Concho will host the second annual Fess Parker Fess-tival on Aug. 16 in honor of Parker's 101st birthday.

Parker was born in Fort Worth on August 16, 1924, and 6 months later, his family moved to San Angelo. He attended local schools, played high school football and delivered the Standard-Times.

After serving in World War II and attending college, Parker began his career in acting and eventually appeared as Davy Crockett in several movies, including playing Crockett in Walt Disney’s “Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier” in 1954, and later on TV, portraying Daniel Boone. From the 1960s to the 1980s, he regularly visited his hometown of San Angelo.
