ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) - The City of Anderson is embarking on a new project on South Main Street, one that will get rid of what some people call "an eyesore to the downtown area" and hopefully spark something new.

More than a century old, these buildings have had their fair share of mixed use. At one point, they served as a hotel, apartments, restaurants, and shops.

“I've been here six years. The hope was that there was an investor there at the beginning who was going to refurbish it, try to make it as close to what it was back when it was created," said Tracie Blankstein, who works in downtown Anderson. "But it just never took hold.”

Blankstein owns a shop a few feet away from the construction site.

“It's just such an eyesore. It's been really tough for business down here," Blankstein
