SPARTANBURG — In the wake of a shooting that killed a 7-month-old, officials from across the city are calling for the end to senseless gun violence and for stronger community partnerships to fight crime.
More than 100 people gathered at C.C. Woodson Community Center on Spartanburg ’s Southside only a few miles from where Zymir Demarco Smith was shot while sleeping inside a Collins Avenue apartment. His mother was also sleeping when bullets pierced the apartment, fatally wounding Smith.
The shooting was Aug. 4.
Authorities said several people outside the apartment fired into it, aiming their weapons at windows on the second floor. Spartanburg Police Department Maj. Art Littlejohn told The Post and Courier the mother was not injured.
