MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - The Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) is giving inmates a second chance at recovery.
Ward County jail commander Major Paul Olthoff helped implement the program for inmates who need continued treatment for opioid abuse.
It started at the beginning of this year.
Olthoff said in the month of March alone, Ward County administered more than 660 doses of medications to help inmates recover.
Before this year, Olthoff said there weren’t any programs like this to help inmates with their addiction.
On Thursday, the commander and his team were recognized by the sheriff, the jail director and their friends and family for their efforts.
“That’s a big number— the 65% are still on an MOUD program. So, we’re seeing that once they get out of the facility, they’re continui
