BEAUMONT, Texas — The Humane Society of Southeast Texas is participating with 12News in the month-long Clear the Shelters campaign, offering reduced adoption fees to help find homes for animals across Southeast Texas.

The shelter is currently housing 98 animals and operates near capacity while working with multiple animal control facilities to reduce euthanasia rates.

On Thursday, Taylor Westphal, shelter director of the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, appeared on 12News' midday newscast with Bella, a one-year-old Chihuahua available for adoption. The 4.5-pound dog was surrendered by her previous owner and is still adjusting to shelter life.
