LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A young child was taken to Norton West Hospital late Thursday morning after being shot in the Parkland neighborhood.

Louisville Metro Police officers responded to the hospital just after 11:30 a.m., according to a news release. They found the child — believed to be around 4 years old — with a gunshot wound. Staff from Norton West provided initial treatment before the child was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital in downtown.

The child as alert and conscious, and the injuries are not considered life-threatening, LMPD said.

Investigators preliminarily determined the shooting happened at a residence in the 2700 block of Garland Avenue.
