PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A North Providence man with a "lengthy criminal history" will spend nearly nine years in federal prison for leading a "well-organized" conspiracy to alter stolen checks and access victims' bank accounts.
Jamal Mansaray, 35, was sentenced Thursday to 110 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom. He was also ordered to pay more than $70,000 in restitution.
Mansaray was previously convicted in 2017 for a similar check fraud scheme. At the time, he told the court it was "probably the worst day of my life," apologized for the harm he caused and denied being the leader of the operation.
