JACKSON, MI – Police are investigating the death of a jail inmate found dead Thursday.

An inmate at the Jackson County Jail was found at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 dead by suspected suicide in their cell, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of the inmate is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” Jackson County Undersheriff Jeremy Barnett wrote in a press release.

The Jackson Police Department is investigating the death. No additional information is being released at this time while the incident remains under investigation.
