ATHENS, Ohio. (WSAZ) - The Ohio University Police Department said they encourage those in Athens to continue to avoid the West Union/Depot Street area.

They said to shelter in place, be observant, and take action as needed.

UPDATE 8/7/25 @ 3:29 p.m.

ATHENS, Ohio. (WSAZ) - The Athens Police Department said a female victim was shot and taken to a local hospital after a shooting at 93 W. Union St.

Police said they’re currently attempting to talk to the individual believed to be involved out of their apartment.

They said to continue to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio University Police Department, and Athens Fire Department are at the scene as well.
