The City of Bozeman and the Bozeman Firefighters Union have reached a settlement after a Bozeman Fire Department paramedic was denied 96 hours of paid bereavement leave — roughly four days — by the city after an early pregnancy loss.
The paramedic, Gabrielle Murphy, went public with her story last week on Instagram and posted a six-page slideshow detailing her experience. In 2024, Murphy and her husband learned they were pregnant with a hopeful rainbow baby — a child born after a previous pregnancy loss — but at less than 12 weeks she was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy, meaning their baby was developing outside of the uterus.
Her pregnancy unviable, Murphy subsequently had surgery and told the Chronicle this past weekend she was advised by her doctor to take eight weeks to recover.
