STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— The Staten Island FerryHawks have added another hometown name to their roster, signing right-handed pitcher Matthew Zguro— a graduate of St. Peter’s Boys High School and standout reliever at Iona College.
Zguro wasted no time making an impact. Just hours after signing his first professional contract, the 22-year-old made his debut out of the FerryHawks bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings of one-hit baseball and picking up his first professional strikeout against the first place Lexington Legends.
A four-year contributor at Iona, Zguro finished his senior season with a 3-2 record, a 4.05 ERA, 30 strikeouts in 20.0 innings pitched, and three saves.
