HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Despite recent slashes in federal funding for public broadcasting, PBS Hawaii CEO and President Ron Mizutani said Hawaii’s local station is not going anywhere.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced Friday , August 1, that it was ceasing operations due to federal funding cuts made by the Trump administration.
In July, Congress passed a bill receding CPB funding for the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years.
While CPB manages the federal funds for all of the 1,500 local public media stations across the nation, like Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR), it does not operate or produce content for the local stations.
PBS is a nonprofit program distributor of CPB, meaning it produces its own content like PBS NewsHour and PBS
