After approval from city council in July , the City of Niagara Falls this month will launch a 14-month pilot project for owner-occupied short-term rentals in residential areas.
The rentals will consist of units rented out to the travelling public for a period of 28 consecutive days or less, with the homeowner on site. They must be licensed by the city for compliance with local regulations.
The city will allow for as many as 100 licences during the pilot project, which runs until September 2026. A staff report will then be made and council will decide whether to continue the program.
The program was approved by council July 8 by a 5-3 vote.
Residents who want to participate in the program must submit an application to the city to qualify. It does not guarantee acceptance.
