ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — A federal lawsuit filed in Manhattan on August 1 challenges two related Trump administration immigration policies that set traps for noncitizens at immigration courts. The plaintiffs, represented by several legal groups including the NYCLU, argue that the policies violate federal law and the U.S. Constitution.
One policy allows arrests at immigration courthouses, and the other facilitates speedy dismissals to fast-track deportations. The lawsuit—available to read at the bottom of this story—argues that the new policies "undermine the rule of law and the integrity of immigration courts by effectively turning mandatory court hearings into traps."
