NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans Recreation Department is celebrating a successful summer.
NORD officials say their programs invested in teens through stipends and educational programs aimed at empowering youth economically and keeping them active. Advertisement
The organization provided more than $254,000 in stipends to participants of their camps, offering each teen up to $450 per program.
Beyond earning money, the focus was on learning and keeping kids active.
Teens participated in career exploration camps, podcasting programs, and STEM programming, which helped them stay off the streets and earn money.
NORD officials said their programs play a role in reducing teen and youth crime.
NORD will now focus on internship programs for the Fall.
