GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — At Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, a moment months in the making turned into a day 7-year-old Stella will never forget.
Her reaction said it all: “This is super cool!”
Stella, who’s been recovering from surgery for nearly a month, walked into a magical surprise: a pink and purple paradise filled with unicorns, squishmallows, and her favorite things. She had no idea it was coming.
"Yeah, I wanted to cry. I kept it together. I'm surprised, but she's been here almost 26 or 25 days at this point, so it's just a perfect pick me up for her, and she's been working super hard," said her mom, Jillian McCarthy.
The transformation came from Once Upon a Room Grand Rapids (OUR-GR), the local chapter of a national nonprofit that decorates hospital rooms for children
