A paramedic from Salem is facing child pornography charges after investigators allegedly recovered hundreds of images and videos depicting child sex abuse on his phone, federal prosecutors said.
Connor McAuliffe, 34, was arrested at his home Wednesday morning and appeared in federal court in Boston, where he was charged with one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography, Massachusetts US attorney Leah B. Foley’s office said in a statement.
He was ordered held pending an Aug. 12 hearing, prosecutors said.
McAuliffe was identified by police in Pretoria, South Africa, in January as an alleged member of a “large-scale private encrypted messaging group dedicated to” exchanging child sex abuse materials, prosecutors said. Authorities said the group had
