SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Hundreds of young people have been working for state lawmakers this summer. Interning at the Capitol is a lot different than in years past.
Democratic Assemblyman Alex Lee said there used to be cases where some interns had to walk the legislator's dog or get their groceries.
"Or being pressured to do things that are unsavory, and drinking," he said.
Bode Gower, who is interning for Republican Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick, described having a much different experience now.
"I've been doing everything, almost everything everyone else is doing," Gower said. "I've been on floor session when they're voting. I've gone to committees with the member."
He's also helped with future legislative packages.
