TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Reid Park Zoo has announced that the Grevy's zebra foal born this summer has been named.
The baby zebra, born on July 8, has been named Tambi, meaning "noodle" in Swahili.
Tambi, pronounced tahm-bee, has started eating solid food and is nursing well with her mother Anna.
Zoo officials said Tambi is known as a very confident and sassy Zebra, who has been taking samples of hay, pellets and water.
Grevy’s zebras are critically endangered, with fewer than 3,000 left in the wild, Zoo officials said. Reid Park Zoo participates in the Grevy’s Zebra Species Survival Plan to help maintain a genetically diverse population.
